POSTPONED: GIS @ NEK STEM Fair

UPDATE 3/24/2020: This event has been postponed until further notice.

The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation's (VSAC) GEAR UP program is taking over the gymnasium at Millers Run School in Sheffield to put on a STEM Fair for 7th and 8th grade students in the Northeast Kingdom. Students from a number of schools in the region will come together to engage with hands-on STEM activitie. VCGI will be on-hand to provide GIS and map-related exercises for the students.

Municipal Day 2019: Springfield

VCGI will again be participating in this year's Municipal Day to aid coordination across and within state and municipal government in Vermont.  Multiple municipal days will be offered in 2019, and we plan to be at many of them.

In Springfield we will share updates to the statewide parcel mapping program. Here's what we'll have to offer:

1:30‐2:00    Parcel Data
By the end of 2019, all Vermont municipalities will have had their parcel data digitized, “standardized,” and joined with the grand list. Come to this session to learn about plans for maintaining this parcel data, ways to access and use it, and novel applications now available using parcel data.

VCGI will again be participating in this year's Municipal Day to aid coordination across and within state and municipal government in Vermont.  Multiple municipal days will be offered in 2019, and we plan to be at many of them.

In Rutland we will share updates to the statewide parcel mapping program, as well as demonstrations on how to use web maps for common municipal functions. Here's what we'll have to offer:

1:20‐1:50    Web Maps and What You Can do with Them
This workshop will invite you to explore how you can use mapping data available from different agencies and departments through the Vermont Open Geodata Portal. We’ll demonstrate themes of data available and how you can use them with different web mapping tools such as the Vermont Interactive Map Viewer, ANR Atlas, ArcGIS online, and more. Come to this workshop to learn about these tools and data as well as how they could help your municipality.

1:50‐2:10    Parcel Data

3D Vermont Student Competition

VCGI will be participating in this year's 3D Vermont student compentition. 3D Vermont is an annual competition that encourages students and schools to get involved in local history in their communities and create realistic models using 3D printing technology.  Students create the models, and display them on a huge map in the gymnasium of Judd Hall and judges make the call on presentation, historic accuracy and team competition, as well as on the 3D model itself.
