VCGI is pleased to announce the rollout of additional lidar (tiled) data for the 2013, 2014 & 2015 Quality Level 2 collections to the VT Geodata Portal (http://geodata.vermont.gov). This release includes the “secondary” derivatives of ASPECT, HILLSHD & SLOPE. Missing from this lineup, and on hold for the moment, are the DSM and NDSM derivatives being subjected to additional quality checks before release (expected later this fall).
With the release of this data to the portal it is now available from all three avenues at VCGI: the All Lidar data product, download from the VT Geodata Portal and as image services.
For a quick map depicting lidar collection areas by year please see http://vcgi.vermont.gov/lidar.
• We are all eagerly awaiting the release of the 2016 Middle Connecticut River lidar collection currently under review at USGS. Though still under review, the latest feedback from USGS is that the review is proceeding as planned at the moment. Bear in mind this could change at any moment but presuming the best we will be rolling this data out in the late fall/early winter timeline. For now stay positive and we will keep you posted.
• 2017 Western VT lidar collection: The fifth and final consecutive year of lidar data collection under the multi-federal agency 3DEP (3D elevation for the nation) program, managed by the USGS, will commence Oct. 1 through “snow obscuration” with the backup acquisition windows in Spring 2018. Traditionally, the priority has been for fall flying to best capture the shorelines of major waterbodies, especially Lake Champlain, when lake levels are at their traditional lowest levels. With the completion of this acquisition Vermont will become only the third state in the nation to have statewide QL2 lidar data behind Delaware and Connecticut!
